About

Hi, I’m Daniel.

Biochemistry PhD student at Baylor University in the Korendovych Lab. Chemist by training, programmer by habit.

I am a first-year PhD student in chemistry and biochemistry at Baylor University, working in the Korendovych Lab. My main focus is building computational pipelines and software for discovering amyloid binders, alongside other projects in the lab.

I studied biochemistry at Albion College, where I worked on the enantioselective synthesis of beta-amino-alcohols and presented that work at two ACS meetings. After graduating I joined the Korendovych Lab as a research technician, then stayed on as a graduate student. As a technician, I worked on machine learning for catalytic peptide design, proposing peptide combinations, synthesizing them, and testing them in the lab.

Most of the software I write exists to move lab work along faster. That includes a multiple sequence alignment tool that replaced NCBI BLAST in our workflow, and pipelines for training and evaluating peptide models. Outside the lab I write parsers, compilers, and servers in Gleam, C++, and Haskell.
